Weekly Update

1/22/19

Hello Everyone!

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great 3 day weekend. Be sure to bundle up. It's COLD ( and snowy!) out there!

As we move through January, we will be completing our midyear testing cycle. Students will be taking IReady testing in Math on Tuesday and Wednesday during their math blocks. In literacy we will continue with writing our Biopoems, creating descriptive poetry about ourselves. They certainly have many nice traits to describe. Later in the week we will be reading Two Bad Ants and learning about point of view and other comprehension skills. Chris  Van Allsburg is one of my favorite authors and I have found that students really enjoy his juice stories.

A note on Reading Logs- please be diligent about completing reading logs. The completion rate has slipped a bit since the start of the year and I just want to emphasize how important time with text is. This can include being read to or reading themselves. I have several books available for loan if needed and the library if full of "juicy stories".

In Science we have been studying life science and ecosystems. We will be moving on to composting and simple machines.  We have talked about the oxygen/carbon dioxide cycle and also food chains and webs. In SS we are on " the road to the Revolution". We have looked at the events leading up to the American Revolution. The BostonMassacre had been the subject of many interesting debates. Lots to learn about!!

As always if you ever have any issues or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Best-
Mrs. Foley
